Since 2011-12, DUDA has been providing Special Grant to the students of six backward tribes of Eastern Nagaland, where many students have benefitted from this programme. The department also observed that most of the HSLC students in Eastern Nagaland were failing in HSLC examinations due to weak performance in Science and Mathematics subjects. Starting from 2016-17 the department initiated for sponsorship of Special tutorials in 16 HSLC and HSSLC centre schools by way of paying honorarium to 64 Mathematics and Science teachers. The department has also provided library books to all the 4 Government colleges of Eastern Nagaland. The department has also played a pivotal   role in education  sector by constructing Science Blocks in all the 4 districts, Boys and Girls Hostel in 4 districts, school buildings and teachers quarters.
