Most of the villages and townships in Eastern Nagaland have been connected with electricity supply  except for some newly established villages and settlements. However, the village and town streets have not been lighted. Moreover, in spite of electrification, maintenance of powerline is an area of concern.

Taking cognizance of this issue, the department has installed Solar Streetlight in as many as 69 villages and townships. The Solar street light programme has tremendously impacted the people, especially in bringing light to important places like schools, morungs, churches, health centers besides lighting up the village and town streets.
