In a momentous event on September 27, 2023, the “Marketing and Logistics Development for promoting tribal products from North Eastern Region (PTP NER)” program was inaugurated at the VDB hall in Longleng, Nagaland. This collaborative effort between TRIFED, IIE, DUDA, and the District Administration of Longleng seeks to transform the fortunes of local tribal artisans.
Presided over by Abhijeet Dutta, Joint Advisor (JA) of TRIFED, the ceremony kicked off with the symbolic ribbon-cutting and launch of the Tribal Artisans Empanelment Mela (TAeM) by Dharam Raj, IAS, Deputy Commissioner of Longleng. This platform serves as a vital space for local artisans to showcase their crafts.
Addressing the gathering, Bangjunglemba, EAC (P) Longleng, set a warm and welcoming tone for the event. Nagedranath Jha, Senior Manager of TRIFED Delhi, emphasized the significance of connecting the abundant talent of local artisans in Nagaland to markets and enhancing their skills.
Hongpe from DUDA stressed the need for empowering tribal artisans, pointing out the potential of online platforms like Amazon and Flipkart for promoting tribal products to a wider audience.
Deputy Commissioner Dharam Raj shared his vision, highlighting a commitment to nurturing local skills and connecting them to larger markets through TRIFED’s melas in Delhi and Guwahati. He encouraged artisans to utilize the Prime Minister Van Dhan Yojana (PMVK) for additional support.
Asif Ekbal Hussain, Senior Program Executive of TRIFED Guwahati, expressed gratitude in the closing remarks, acknowledging the collaborative efforts and hinting at the promise of international training provided by IIE.
With approximately 110 tribal artisans from Longleng District actively participating, this initiative signifies a crucial step towards empowering and recognizing the rich tribal heritage of Nagaland. Beyond promoting tribal craftsmanship, the program aims to provide essential skills and resources, connecting artisans to broader markets for sustained success through this journey of empowerment and cultural celebration.
The same event Tribal Artisans empanelment Mela (TAeM) was also organized in Tuensang on 15th May 2023, inaugurated by Tuensang Deputy Commissioner Nokchasashi and in Mon District headquarter Mela was held on 29th September 2023, inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner Mon, Ajit Kumar Verma IAS.
